Sentencing for man thought to be responsible for Flint Firefighter Ricky Hill Jr.’s death set for May 6

On March 28, the man who was charged with setting a fire that led to the death of a Flint Firefighter Ricky Hill Jr. in February 2023 pleaded no contest.

Second-degree arson was the charge Jabez Bobo pleaded no contest to. A plea deal lowered Bobo’s original charge, which was open murder and first-degree arson.

Hill suffered a heart attack Feb. 25, 2023 at the scene of a trailer fire. Investigators believe the fire in the Elms Mobile Home Park on Dort Highway was set intentionally.

Bobo will be sentenced on May 6.

He is being required to pay for the damages of the fire and to seek mental health treatment.
