MLK Essay Contest accepting submissions through Dec. 9

(FLINT, Mich., Dec. 2, 2022) – Submissions are being sought for the Martin Luther King, Jr. Essay Contest. This year’s essay contest theme is “Grace and Perseverance Under Pressure.” The contest is open to all students in grades 6 through 12. First place is a $500 gift card, second place is a $300 gift card and third place is a $200 gift card. The first place winner will read their essay at the 44th annual MLK Jr. Tribute dinner Thursday, Jan. 12, 2023, at the Genesys Banquet and Conference Center.

Eligibility and Important Information:

·        Participant must be in grades 6th through 12th

·        Essay must be at least 250 words typed in Times New Roman, font size 12, and double-spaced on numbered, single-sided pages.

·        The name of the submitter, phone number, and school must be in the upper right-hand corner on the FIRST page of the essay

·        Use of profanity will be a disqualifier

·        The deadline for submissions is Dec. 9, 2022 (mailed entries must be postmarked by De. 9)
