Presented by Luma and Shop Floor Theatre Company, Signal Boost is a competition for young artists across Genesee County, Michigan to express their vision of a better future through music and poetry.
From October 6 – October 24, 2021, residents ages 14-23 can apply at signalboost.live for a chance to perform an original song, rap or spoken word poem live at the Capitol Theatre and win studio time, cash, mentorship from Detroit music producer Helluva and more!
Why it matters
Youth have unique perspectives on local issues, bring new ideas to the table and can be a powerful source of energy and passion for social change. When youth feel empowered to take action, and when they see their efforts achieve positive change, it can have a profound and lasting impact.
Signal Boost is an opportunity for young people to reclaim the narratives often attributed to them, vocalize what they care about and creatively express their vision for a better future. We are optimistic that both direct and indirect participation in Signal Boost will have an empowering effect on young people, inspiring more agency and driving positive change in their lives and communities.
