The House of Ester has lost its bid for a temporary restraining order stopping the sale of the building where it’s located. Circuit Court Judge David Newblatt denied the motion on Monday October 3, 2022 stating that he will not issue an order to stop the sale of the property, located on Pierson Road in Flint, which was once the home of the St. Agnes Convent.
The program has been in a heated battle with the city for months, fighting against being evicted. Flint City Council approved a resolution to sell the building to the program over three years ago, but the purchase was never completed.
The House of Esther program is designed to allow pregnant teenagers to live, complete their educations, access resources and create a strong healthy familial-type bond with each other, the staff and their mentors during the time that they are pregnant and 12 months after while still living at House of Esther.
