Genesee Health Plan providing flu vaccines, opioid overdose training and more at 10th Annual ‘Drive-Thru Vaccine’ Event Sept. 27

Clothing giveaway available to attendees

FLINT – As fall quickly approaches, so does flu season. For the last ten years, Genesee Health Plan (GHP) along with several community partners, is hosting its annual “Drive-Thru Vaccine” event from 3-6 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 27. All are welcome regardless of whether they have health coverage.

Attendees can drive-thru the service bay, roll down their window and roll up their sleeve to safely and conveniently receive their flu vaccine provided by Walgreen’s pharmacy. Tdap, Hepatitis B, HPV, and flu vaccines for ages 6 and older will be provided by Genesee County Health Department inside the GHP office. Community resources and health care enrollment information will be provided.

This event is designed to provide attendees with vaccine information they need to make an informed decision about what is best for their health, as many factors go into whether or not a vaccine is appropriate for each individual person,” said Shannon Ciszek, communications coordinator of GHP. “We have experts at the event who can help answer any questions and help attendees make the choice that is best for them.”

New this year-GHP is partnering with the health department’s Sexual Health & Family Planning Clinic to provide confidential Sexually Transmitted Disease (STI) testing during the event. This new initiative, “Pee for Pizza,” spearheaded by the health department, encourages community members of all ages to get tested for STI’s and be rewarded with free pizza, provided by Little Caesars.

The Genesee Community Health Center is providing Naloxone (NARCAN) training to identify the signs and symptoms of an opioid overdose and how to safely administer the reversal drug, Naloxone. R.L. Jones Community Outreach Center will provide a clothing and basic needs giveaway to attendees of all ages. ASL interpreters will also be available at the event to assist with communication barriers for the deaf and hard of hearing community, provided by the Communication Access Center for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing. Free ice cream, giveaways for all ages and more will be at event.
