FLINT – Genesee County Prosecutor David Leyton said a jury, on September 24, convicted a Flint man
of two counts of sexual assault against an underage child at a home in Flint in 2021. Andrew Parker, 33, is convicted of two counts of criminal sexual conduct first degree involving a child under 13 years of age, punishable by a mandatory minimum sentence of 25 years in prison and up to life.
The incidents were first brought to the attention of authorities when the victim’s grandmother flagged down a Genesee County Sheriff’s paramedic unit at the intersection of S. Saginaw Street and Bristol Road and told the paramedic of the allegations of the assault. Upon further investigation and interviews with the victim, her mother, grandmother, Parker and others, the Sheriff’s Office presented a warrant packet to the Genesee County Prosecutor’s Office and Parker was charged.
“Criminal sexual assaults are one of the most heinous crimes on the books and the sexual assault of children is unspeakable,” said Genesee County Prosecutor David Leyton after the jury returned its verdict.
“I want to thank the jury for their service and helping us hold the defendant accountable for
his actions in a court of law,” Leyton added.
Prosecutor Leyton also commended his staff including Assistant Prosecutor Jonathan Poulos who led the charge at trial, his victim advocates for their work throughout the process, and the many support staff who bring it all together. He also thanked Genesee County Sheriff Chris Swanson’s men and women who investigated the case, made the arrest and ensured that justice was served.
Parker will be sentenced in Circuit Court at 2 p.m. on October 21, 2024.
