Flint, Mich – The Genesee Intermediate School District (GISD) is excited to welcome area high school students, their families and other members of the community to the Genesee Career Institute’s (GCI) 2022 Open House. The open house will take place at GCI from 3:30 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. this Wednesday.  Attendees will meet instructors, college and business representatives and current GCI students. There will be demonstrations, displays, and tours of classrooms and labs to give participants a good idea of what it would be like for 11th and 12th graders attending GCI for the 2022-2023 school year.

GCI provides instruction with the latest technology and hands-on learning in a variety of in-demand career fields.

“GCI a gem right here in Genesee County,” said Julie Lublin, principal of GCI.

“The job market is experiencing a shortage in skilled trades, jobs like nurses, electricians, welders, mechanical engineers, even pilots,” Lublin added. “We have programs that provide hands-on training in all of these high-demand career fields and more. Our students can earn college credit and industry-standard certifications so they graduate with the skills needed to excel in the workforce.”

Hundreds of students and parents from all Genesee County high schools are invited to attend GCI’s Open House. Students in 10th grade are especially encouraged to attend and explore the more than 25 programs GCI offers. Some of the exciting career areas available include: agriscience, architecture and construction, engineering, finance, health sciences, marketing, math (STEM), public safety and US Army JROTC.

The Genesee Career Institute began operations in 1969, and it is currently owned and operated by the GISD. Genesee County’s public school districts are integral partners in the ongoing success of the center’s programming and operations. Advisory groups consisting of industry professionals, community partners and parents serve in each program area to help ensure the continued relevancy of the programs offered.
