7,190 people have already received Flint Water Crisis settlement payments, according to the Special Master.
As of January 16, 2026, 26,231 people had approved claims. Some of these individuals had been approved for more than one payment (i.e. a property claim and an injury claim, or multiple property claims). A recent official notice indicated that of the total individuals approved for payment, 13,196 were minors at the time of the water crisis.13,035 of these individuals were adults, with this number also including businesses.
The initial distribution was December 2025, and the second group of property claims was issued January 20, 2026.The latest group of property claimant was issued on February 4, 2026.
According to a February 4, 2026 update from the Special Master, at this point, only individuals who have a residential property damage claim and no other claim are receiving payments.
The Special Master said remaining payments will continue to be issued in stages.
The update also says anyone who has filed a claim should look for notification once their claim is ready for payment. Award Notices are being sent by mail or email from claimants’ attorney, or by the payment administrator for those without attorneys. These Award Notices are needed to log onto the Flint Payment portal.
The letter gives instructions on how to log onto the Flint Payment Portal and what to do once there.
Anyone who receives a letter and cannot log onto the Flint Payment Portal or who need help logging in is advised to call 1–888–893–7470.

Those who need a check payment can make that election on the Flint Payment Portal as well, and will receive an email or phone call letting them know they can pick up their checks when ready.
The next group is expected to be released for payment on February 20. 2026. This group will include property awards for people who have also qualified for an injury award.
“After that we will issue payments for property claims where two or more individuals have qualified for the same property,” stated Deborah Greenspan, the court-appointed Special Master.
As of February 4, 2026, the remaining appeals were still being reviewed. Greenspan assured claimants they will receive a decision as soon as possible. Those awaiting claims were advised to keep their contact information current and call their attorney or Epiq at 1-888-893-7470 with all changes.
