(FLINT, Mich., Oct. 9, 2024) BIPOC business owners in Flint & Genesee are invited to connect, learn and grow at “Welcome to the Bridge,” a special event happening Thursday, Oct. 24 from 5:30 – 8 p.m. at the Sloan Museum of Discovery. Hosted by the Flint & Genesee Economic Alliance’s Small Business Support Hub, this event will spotlight resources and tools designed to help entrepreneurs who are Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (BIPOC) access business opportunities and accelerate their growth.
The event highlights the Flint & Genesee Business Bridge platform, a tool launched in 2022 to connect BIPOC-owned businesses with larger organizations and procurement opportunities.
“What began as a directory has transformed into a powerful tool for BIPOC-owned businesses in the region,” said Karena Hamlet, program director of business services at the Flint & Genesee Economic Alliance, a division of the Flint & Genesee Group.
Hamlet added: “We’re excited to unveil the latest updates, which make it easier than ever to navigate the platform and leverage the available resources.”
According to Hamlet, the newly upgraded platform allows users to more easily connect with fellow business owners and local organizations, access relevant RFPs and contracting opportunities, learn about funding opportunities and stay informed about business events and educational workshops.
In addition to a presentation on the platform’s new features, the event will feature a panel of bank underwriters discussing what they look for when reviewing loan applications from businesses. The evening will also include dinner and time to network with like-minded business professionals from the Flint & Genesee region.
“One of the greatest strengths of the Business Bridge is its ability to foster connections within our community,” said Hamlet. “This event is a fantastic opportunity for BIPOC entrepreneurs to expand their networks and unlock valuable resources that can help them thrive.”
The event is free to attend, although pre-registration is required. To register, visit DevelopFlintandGenesee.org/welcome.
