City Council to hear resolution on water bill credits Wednesday, July 20

Pending City Council approval, all residential households would receive a $300 credit

FLINT, MI, July 19 – Water relief credits for Flint residents are on the Flint City Council’s agenda for tomorrow, Wednesday, July 20, 2022. Mayor Sheldon Neeley and the city administration are presenting a resolution to the City Council Finance Committee authorizing a $300 water credit per residential household, paid for with ARPA funds.

The mayor and administration are recommending up to $8,600,000 toward water bill relief in the amount of a $300 credit per residential account, the equivalent of three months of the average water bill.

“This will positively impact Flint residents during peak water use months,” Neeley said. “ARPA dollars can be used to assist citizens who may have been impacted financially by the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, and we would like to exercise our right to extend that assistance in the form of water bill credits.”

The credit will be available to all residential accounts with active meters as of the date credits are applied, regardless of payment status. This means that the credit can be applied to past due water bills.
