Floyd & Brenda Clack Honored/JSU Chester Hughes, Jr. Memorial Scholarship Establised

On Saturday, April 26, Jackson State University National Alumni-Flint Chapter sponsored a scholarship brunch to honor Floyd and Brenda Clack and established the JSU Chester Hughes, Jr. Memorial Scholarship.  The event took place at the Flint Golf Club.

            State Representative Woodrow Stanley and Mrs. Reta Stanley served as mistress and master of ceremony.  The program included greeting from the Flint president, Georgia McCall. Rev. James Waldon and Mrs. Dororthy Waldon gave the invocation.  Christine Cook presented the establishment of the JSU Chester Hughes, Jr. Scholarship.  Her presentation included reasons why Chester Hughes deserved such an honor.  A beautiful banner was presented by Chelonde Hughes, Chester’s daughter and Gene Hughes, Chester’s brother.  A heartfelt response was given by Mrs. Myra Hughes.  Ernestine Jackson honored Floyd and Brenda Clack.  She included a long list of things the Clacks have done in the city, state and country. 

            Beautiful music was presented by Martha Wiley, Dorothy Laws, and Lennex Burroughs.  The program ended with the singing of the JSU Alma Mater, Jackson Fair.  The Flint Chapter was joined by members of the Detroit Chapter of JSU Alumni.  Rev. James Waldon gave the benediction.

            Contributions to the JSU Chester Hughes, Jr. Scholarship are still being accepted.  You may mail your contributions to JSUNAA-Flint Chapter, 6614 Colonial Drive.
