Genesee County talent attraction program launches new Local Champions to connect newcomers to the community

(Flint, Mich., 10/19/2026) – Flint & Genesee Education & Talent’s Make Your Move in Flint & Genesee is expanding to help make new residents feel at home. Five professionals from different areas of Genesee County and across industries have signed on as Local Champions for the talent attraction program, promoting the region and serving as a welcoming committee for our newest additions.

“We now have ambassadors at the front lines inviting new people into the community,” says Brianna Mosier, executive director of Flint & Genesee Education & Talent.

She added: “Our Local Champions are helping guide newcomers through their transition to Flint & Genesee, with professional connections, helpful tips and a person to call on when they want to feel connected.”

This new initiative puts faces to the residents who live, work and play in our community every day. The goal is to attract new people to the area who are looking to find a place to land. At the same time, it will help integrate those who’ve already chosen the community by providing a touchpoint for what to do in Flint & Genesee.

Antonio Riggs, associate director of the Office of Student Career Advancement and Success at the University of Michigan-Flint, and a Make Your Move Local Champion representing Flint, shared why he joined the program:

“The Local Champions program matters because it gives community members an opportunity to share their ‘Flint Story’ about our community, celebrate the people, culture, business and organization that make Flint strive. As a local champion, I can share my passion about serving and investing in the Flint community. We have a strong network that is here to help, encourage and be a support system for our residents. I would encourage others to consider Flint a place to call home and be the spark to advance the community in a positive way. Flint isn’t just a place to live; it’s a community to belong, contribute and help shape the transformation of our city.”

By connecting with the Local Champions on social media, you can see what’s happening in Flint & Genesee, from professional events to after-hours outings. Through the Make Your Move in Flint & Genesee website, newcomers can connect directly with Local Champions to get expert advice on integrating into the community.
