Brinker Names 2014 Golden Apple Award Winner

 

Loraine Brinker, teacher at International Academy of Flint, was awarded the

Genesee County Bar Association’s 2014 Golden Apple Award at its Annual Law Day Luncheon.

In 2007, Ms. Brinker began her teaching career at International Academy of Flint. The following year, she began her involvement with Genesee County Bar Association’s annual Law Day activities which include Mock Trials. Within four years, she was promoted to head of the math department at International Academy of Flint. In addition to her position as head of the math department, she teaches several levels of Math and an AP World History Course.

In May 2013, Ms. Brinker completed her Master’s Degree in Education Administration at the University of Michigan – Flint. In addition to her completing her Master’s Degree and her full-time teaching career, Ms. Brinker is the President of the Imlay City Girls Softball League and Commissioner of the Michigan Thumb Association.

Bringing in this year’s Law Day theme of “American Democracy and the Rule of Law:

Why Every Vote Matters,” Ms. Brinker urged the students in attendance at the luncheon to vote and get involved with their community. Ms. Brinker sets a great example for her students and for her own four children in educating yourself and helping others.

The Golden Apple is awarded to an outstanding educator in Genesee County who is recognized for the habit of offering professional guidance and advice to their students and fellow teachers and is recognized as a role model who volunteers for worthwhile community projects, including Law Day and related activities.
