Warrant issued for Mt. Morris Township man accused of dumping trash in Flint, additional arrests likely

Flint Police have issued a warrant for the arrest of a Mt. Morris Township man, who is accused of dumping in the 2100 block of Proctor Street. Police have surveillance video of the crime, the suspect, and his vehicle.

Dumping is a violation of city ordinance and punishable by up to 90 days in jail and/or a $500 fine. Police said surveillance video shows a man believed to be the suspect stop his vehicle in the 2100 block of Proctor Avenue and dump bags of trash and other debris into the street before leaving again in his vehicle.

Arraignment is pending.

The case is one of several being investigated by the Flint Police Department and additional arrests are likely.

“We will no longer allow the city of Flint to be used as anyone’s dumping ground,” Mayor Sheldon Neeley said. “Through great partnership with residents and community groups, we have removed more than 2 million pounds of blight from the city of Flint this year. Working together, we can clean up our city, but we cannot do it alone. We need residents’ help. The fight on blight is everyone’s fight.”

Neeley also praised the Flint Police Department and the city’s neighborhood safety pfficers for their ongoing efforts and their use of technology to catch those who are illegally dumping in our community.

“We have reminded folks time and time again that dumping is illegal and will not be tolerated,” Police Chief Terence Green said. “This is a part of the Flint Police Department’s commitment to using technology to make our community a better, safer place.”

The Fight Blight initiative has been an ongoing initiative under Neeley. His efforts have resulted in increased cleanups, hiring of additional staff to perform cleanups, a $220,000 grant and a unique partnership with Crime Stoppers to help catch illegal dumpers.

Crime Stoppers will offer a reward of up to $1,000 for information that helps lead to the arrest of anyone illegally dumping in the city of Flint. The reward is intended to catch those dumping illegally in Flint and serve as a deterrent to those who would consider polluting Flint neighborhoods with their trash.

Anyone can anonymously report illegal dumping by submitting videos or photos to CrimeStoppersofFlint.com or on the free P3 mobile app, or you can call 1-800-422-JAIL (5245).
