UM-Flint welcomes 5th-12th graders to Summer Vocal Academy of Music

FLINT, MI The University of Michigan-Flint is holding its annual Summer Vocal Academy of Music, July 7 – 18, 2025. The two-week program runs Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. on campus, with a closing concert at 6:00 p.m. on July 18 at the UM-Flint Theatre.
For over 40 years, UM-Flint’s Music program has offered this popular day camp for 5th through 12thgrade students in the greater Flint area who are interested in exploring their creativity through music, choir, rhythm and performance.
This year, the UM-Flint Music faculty is partnering with Michael Abbasspour, an alumnus who teaches for Flint’s El Ballet Folklórico Estudiantil, to offer explorations of Latin music to the 8th- through 12th-grade
singers.
“We’ve expanded the music curriculum this summer to include Explorations of Musica Latina,” said Gabriela Hristova, associate professor of music and the academy’s director. “This class will teach academy students selections of Latin-American vocal repertoire, adding to the spectrum of musical experiences and artistic exposure for our participants.”
Early Bird registration closes on June 6th; however, registration remains open until the first day of camp. For more information and to register, please visit go.umflint.edu/SVA
