The Flint & Genesee Literacy Network expands Dolly’s Book program

(FLINT, Mich. Feb. 20, 2024) – The Flint & Genesee Literacy Network (FGLN) has kicked off expansion of Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library to every corner of Genesee County through the Genesee Reads initiative. Every child under the age of 5 in Genesee County is now eligible to receive free, high-quality books mailed to their home every month until their fifth birthday.

In addition to expanding the Imagination Library program, the FGLN has partnered with Mott Community College (MCC), the MCC Library, LatinX Center and The Gloria Coles Flint Public Library on a Children’s Book Giveaway event March 2 from 10 a.m. – 1 p.m. in the Event Center on the College’s main campus in Flint.

Research underscores the significance of book-rich environments in nurturing cognitive, linguistic and socio-emotional growth. Genesee Reads aims to foster a lifelong love for reading and learning, ultimately contributing to a brighter future for our community’s youngest members.
