Second annual Sister to Sister Summit Will Motivate, Inspire And Explore Timely Topics For Young Women Flint’s Claressa Shields Will Speak At The Free Event

Flint-area girls from the ages of 8 to 18 are encouraged to attend an exciting day of workshops, presentations and discussions designed to help them achieve personal and academic excellence at the second annual Sister to Sister Summit on Saturday, February 21. The event is free to all participants. More than 140 girls attended last year, and Summit organizers hope to double attendance this year.  Workshops will cover building self-esteem, developing healthy relationships, dressing properly, and effectively handling both social and cyber bullying.

Highlighting the activities will be a presentation by Flint native, Claressa Shields, “2012 Women’s Boxing Olympic gold medalist, Flint’s Golden Girl.”  There will also be a performance by female members of Tapology. The event will be moderated by local reporter Caresse Jackman from ABC 12 News.

The Summit takes place at New Creation Church of God, 3472 Lennon Road in Flint   A continental breakfast and lunch are included in the day.  Breakfast and registration begin at 8: 30 a.m. Activities will end about 3:30 p.m.

To register for this free event, contact Carol Gardner at the Ruth Mott Foundation at 810-396-3112 or by e-mail at cgardner@ruthmott.org.  Parents and guardians are not required to attend, but because sensitive topics will be discussed, they must give signed consent at registration for the girls in their care to participate.

More than thirty organizations and individuals including UM- Flint Women’s Educational Center, STAR Ministry, and Raise it UP!, have partnered with the Ruth Mott Foundation to sponsor the Sister to Sister Summit.
