Greater Flint Afro-American Sports Hall of Fame 31st Announcement Reception

The Flint Public Library’s lower level meeting room is the home of the Greater Flint Afro-American [Sports] Hall of Fame (GFAAHF), a collection of over 100 plaques honoring Flint athletes, celebrating its 31st year dedicated to its motto, “To preserve, not compete.”

Join members of the Greater Flint Afro-American Hall of Fame at the Flint Public Library, 1026 E. Kearsley St., Flint, from 6-7:30 PM on Tuesday, February 3, for the official announcement of its 2015 inductees: Terence Greene (1985 Flint Central High School, multiple sports; basketball and football),  Joel Ragland (1972, Flint Northern High School, basketball; posthumous), Glen Rice, (1985, Flint Northwestern High School, basketball), Trent Tucker (1978, Flint Northwestern High School, basketball), George Washington (1973, Flint Central High School, multiple sports; football, wrestling and track and field), Diana (Frederica) Wiley (1981, Beecher High School, multiple sports; basketball, track and field and coaching), Ernest (Big E) Williams (AA city basketball) and T&D Trophies’ 1991 Michigan Parks & Recreation Association softball championship team; Donald Anglin, Michael S. Harper, Charlie Harris, Butch Johnson, Eric Lawson, Phillip Lyons, Rick Nichols, Robert Randle, Willie A. Ragland, Leroy Taylor, Houston A. Tipton, Kermit Reeves, Norphlet Reeves, Robert A. Scott and Curtis Williams. Hear a presentation on the inductee’s athletic and life achievements. Admission to the Announcement Reception is FREE. 

You can also take a virtual tour of the Greater Flint Afro-American Hall of Fame online by visiting www.fpl.info/hallfame. The Hall of Fame Web site includes downloadable nomination and criteria forms, history of the Hall of Fame, and information about each inductee since the first class in 1985 through 2012. The 2015 inductee class will be added in March 2015.

The 31st annual ceremony dinner will be held on Sunday, March 22, 4PM at Riverfront Banquet Center, Flint, honoring this year’s inductees. The founder is Norman Bryant.
