Roller Coaster Lions Roll Over the Packers

Roller Coaster Lions Roll Over the Packers

By: Alex LaGrone

The Green Bay Packers came into this season with a healthy Aaron Rodgers at quarterback and a legit pass rusher like Julius Peppers. Linebacker Clay Matthews, gave the defense some teeth to take a bite out of opposing teams offense's.

The Detroit Lions, on the other hand, brought in a new head coach, Jim Caldwell, who promised to get quarterback Matthew Stafford to be more consistent. Both teams met last Sunday in a early season division showdown.

Each team was ready to make a statement. Enter the Lions defense. The Lions defense held Packers to only 76 yards rushing and Rodgers to 162 passing yards( his lowest since 2008) to help propel the Lions to a 19-7 victory at Ford Field.

Before the game you would have thought it was going to be a high scoring game. Both teams featuring a high octane offenses. Instead it was the much criticized Lions defense that lead the way. Lions safety recovered a fumble and ran for a touchdown to give the Lions a 7-0 lead in the first quarter.

That play set the tone for the rest of the game to help the Lions defeat the Packers. The Lions are 2-1, while the Packers fell to 1-2.

In week one the Lions looked like Super Bowl contenders (up) by beating the N.Y. Giants. Week two they looked bad (down) and lost to the Carolina Panthers. Last week they looked good again (up) and won.

Now the team is on top of the world. Which ride is better, the roller coaster at Cedar Point or the one the Lions will take you on this season?

Up next is the New York Jets. Hold on, enjoy the ride.
