(Flint, Mich., 01/29/2026) — The Flint Promise Scholarship Program will continue to extend its services to students who live and graduate from high school in the city of Flint, thanks to a generous grant from the National Basketball Association (NBA) Foundation. These grant funds will help the program sustain college success coaching, expand support into the summer and strengthen outreach strategies.
“Flint Promise was established to provide an opportunity for students in Flint who may not have otherwise been able to move on to higher education,” said Brianna Mosier, executive director of Flint & Genesee Education & Talent.
Mosier continued: “We are grateful to the NBA Foundation, as well as the Detroit Pistons, for providing this support to help keep our program going and growing.”
For the last seven years, the Flint Promise Scholarship Program has benefited hundreds of students in the city of Flint. The fund was established at the Community Foundation of Greater Flint in 2018, with support from Tom Gores and the Consumers Energy Foundation, to help make college more accessible for students who live in and graduate from a high school in the city of Flint.
“We are grateful to receive support from the National Basketball Association to help young people in Flint further their education,” said Tim Herman, CEO of the Flint & Genesee Group, lead organization for Flint & Genesee Education & Talent.
Herman added: “The Flint Promise Scholarship Program provides much-needed financial and personal support to high school graduates from the city of Flint, and with this grant, our program can continue to support their futures.”
In addition to financial support for Flint graduates, Flint Promise also provides academic and personal support through Success Coaches. These coaches follow Flint Promise Scholars through their higher education journey, ensuring they are successful in their classes, guiding them through scheduling and how to get textbooks, finding them tutoring services or connecting them to resources outside of school that they might need.
“In partnership with the Detroit Pistons, we are thrilled to support the Flint Promise Scholarship Program through this grant round,” said NBA Foundation Executive Director Ruth Jurgensen.
Jurgensen added: “Their work is transforming pathways for young people in Flint, and aligns directly with our collective mission to create opportunities for under resourced youth.”
Thanks to funding from organizations like the NBA Foundation, Flint Promise Scholars can attend school with less financial burden and with support every step of the way. Since 2018, 117 students have graduated from the Flint Promise, increasing the talent coming from Flint and Genesee county and creating an impact on our community and economy.
