NAACP-Flint Branch Annual Freedom Fund Dinner

The NAACP-Flint Branch is having their 34th Annual Freedom Fund Dinner. The event will take place on Saturday, March 14, 2015 at 6pm, Riverfront Banquet Center in downtown Flint.  Tickets are $100 per person.  Sponsorships packages are available, including a VIP Reception prior to dinner program, which begins at 5:00 p.m.  There will also be a silent auction to benefit the ACT-SO (Academic, Cultural, Technological, Scientific, Olympics) program.

Mr. Gerald Kariem, Director of UAW Region 1-D is the keynote speaker.  He has a long history of being an advocate for worker and civil rights.  Our Honorary Chairperson is the esteemed Lawrence E Moon.  Honorees include, Vernon Chapel African Methodist Episcopal Church whose Pastor is Reverend Byron Moore, will receive the C. Fred Robinson Civic Rights Award;  Mr. John Rymes, long time adviser to the Gamma Delta Kudos and the Kappa Leadership, will receive the Distinguished Leadership Award, and Dr. Karen Williams Weaver, will be awarded the Celia M. Turner Humanitarian Award. Additionally, several college scholarships will be awarded by The Flint Branch and Hurley Foundation.

The National Association for the Advancement of Colored People, usually abbreviated as NAACP, is one of the oldest and most influential civil rights organizations in the United States.  Its mission is to "to ensure the political, educational, social, and economic equality of rights of all persons and to eliminate racial hatred and racial discrimination." Its name, retained in accord with tradition, is one of the last surviving uses of the term "colored people."
