MCC President to teach free fall Presidential Seminar

(FLINT, Mich., Aug. 30, 2021) – Mott Community College (MCC) President Dr. Beverly Walker-Griffea will teach a Presidential Seminar this fall (beginning September 28.) The topic will be “Understanding the Birth, Resilience and Renaissance of Tulsa’s Greenwood District: The Significance of Black Wall Street.” This seminar is free to MCC students, employees and the general public.

“This course will provide participants with the opportunity to meet key Tulsa leaders that have interrupted the silence surrounding the Tulsa Race Massacre,” said Tulsa native President Walker-Griffea.

“Participants will be challenged during the seminar to compare parallels between Tulsa and Flint history while developing strategies that can promote communities to move forward together,” she added.

The seminar’s classes will run in two separate sections. Section one will meet 2 p.m.-4 p.m. and Section two will meet 6 p.m.-8 p.m.; both sections will meet September 28, October 5, October 12, October 19 and October 26. This interactive class will include discussions, guest speakers and relevant videos, connected via Zoom for five two-hour class periods. There will be an optional short-term study tour available to participants to visit in and around Tulsa, Oklahoma during Spring Break 2022. The seminar and textbooks are free.

Applicants will also be asked to write a brief statement of interest (up to 250 words) about why they should be accepted to take the course. Email this brief statement of interest to officeofthepresident@mcc.edu. Selected participants will be notified of their acceptance and registered for the class. Deadline to apply is September 20, 2021.
