MCC President elected Chair of statewide Board

(FLINT, Mich., August 9, 2022) – Mott Community College (MCC) President, Dr. Beverly Walker-Griffea, has been elected Chair of the Board of Directors for the Michigan Community College Association (MCCA). Walker-Griffea has served on the MCCA Board for six years, most recently as Vice Chair. In this role she will serve alongside the president of the MCCA.

“This is Michigan’s Community Colleges moment to lead into a new era with a new MCCA President, new strategic plan, and new dynamic goals,” said Walker-Griffea. “This is an exciting time to serve as the MCCA Board of Directors Chairperson!”

Her election as Board Chair was made during the organization’s summer conference in Traverse City. The week-long conference included professional development, adoption of the framework for the new MCCA strategic plan, a deep dive into legislation and political trends relevant to community colleges, and an awards dinner.

The organization also welcomed two new member institutions, the Saginaw Chippewa Tribal College and the Bay Mills Community College. They are the first tribal college members of MCCA.

The Michigan Community College Association fosters collaboration, connection, and partnerships among the 28 Michigan public community colleges and their stakeholders.

The MCCA provides strong legislative and public advocacy in Lansing and throughout Michigan, works to improve the image and credibility of community colleges, and advances numerous shared initiatives through the Michigan Center for Student Success, Michigan Colleges Online, Collaborative Programs, and the Michigan New Jobs Training Program.
