Local nonprofit hosts Healthy You!

Community invited to attend free program at the Community Enrichment Center

Flint, MI – Communities First, Inc., a local nonprofit community development corporation, is hosting their new program Healthy You! at the Community Enrichment Center (322 E Hamiliton Ave. Flint, MI 48505). Programs will be offered with support from the Greater Flint Health Coalition and the University of Michigan. Program participation is free.

“Through programs like Healthy You! we can reach our goal of improving the quality of life for community members,” says Glenn Wilson, president and CEO of Communities First, Inc.

“I am pleased to work with like-minded community partners in engaging people in physical activity and education,” Wilson added.

Healthy You! encourages healthy living through education and physical activity. The first program, REC-CONNECT, is an initiative of the Greater Flint Health Coalition. This free physical fitness demo class will include chair bingo, chair yoga, strength bands and chair aerobics.

REC-CONNECT will take place from 10 -11:00 a.m., on Wednesdays from November 1 to December 13, skipping the week of Thanksgiving,

The second program is a free Health Education Series hosted by the University of Michigan. They will cover topics such as hypertension, diabetes, kidney disease and medical self-advocacy.

The Health Education Series will take place from 12:30– 1:30 p.m.,  on Mondays from November 6 until November 27.

“We are excited to showcase the improvements that have been made at the Community Enrichment Center by offering new programs like Healthy You!” said Essence Wilson, chief strategy officer at Communities First, Inc.

She added: “The center will become a community hub for programs that will empower people and build community.”
