A Genesee County man has been charged with attempted murder after on Tuesday Oct. 13 police found another young man next to a car with a gunshot wound to his leg in the parking lot of the
Home Depot store on Corunna Road, in Flint Township.

In addition to Genesee County Prosecutor David Leyton charging the man with one count of assault with intent to murder, Chancy Sherrod McGowan, 25, is charged with felony firearm, tampering with evidence and carrying a concealed weapon.

The shooting was reported around 2:40 p.m. Both McGowan and the 20 year-old victim, who remains in critical care at Hurley Hospital, are from Flint Township.

Preliminary investigative reports indicate the victim and the shooter were well acquainted with each other.

“This was not a random act involving an innocent bystander or customer of Home Depot,”
Leyton said. “The feud between the victim and the shooter had been ongoing
for some time and, unfortunately, it spilled over into a very public place and in a very
violent manner.

McGowan will be arraigned in 67th District Court and a probable cause conference, and
preliminary examination will be scheduled.

Please note a criminal charge is merely an allegation and the defendant is presumed
innocent until and unless proven guilty.

The investigation remains ongoing.
