JURY CONVICTS MAN IN 2019 FATAL SHOOTING AT ANOTHER VEHICLE ON SAGINAW STREET IN FLINT

FLINT – Genesee County Prosecutor David Leyton said a jury has found a Flint man guilty on all charges related to a 2019 shooting that left one person dead and two others seriously injured.

Christopher Demond Meadows, 30, is convicted of one count of first degree murder, two counts of attempted murder, one count of discharge from a vehicle causing death, two counts of discharge from a vehicle causing serious injury, felon in possession of a firearm, carrying a concealed weapon and seven related felony firearm counts.

According to testimony at trial, on July 21, 2019, three women were heading north on Saginaw Street near Avenue A, between Hamilton and Pasadena Avenues, when the vehicle they were riding in was struck by 30 rounds of gunfire that was shot from a vehicle approaching from behind. One of the victims, Wanda Garner, 26 of Flint, was fatally shot, another was critically wounded and the third suffered serious gunshot wounds to both hands.

Immediately following the shooting, the assailing vehicle bumped into the rear of the victims’ vehicle and then crashed head on into another vehicle. The driver of the vehicle remained on the scene after the crash, but surveillance video showed two other individuals fleeing the scene on foot. A single fingerprint from the assailing vehicle came back to Meadows and witness testimony secured the convictions.

According to the police investigation, it appears the tragic incident resulted from a case of mistaken identity of the vehicle and occupants at which Meadows was shooting in his attempt at revenge for a prior shooting of a friend of his.

“This was a terrible tragedy that never should have occurred,” said Leyton after the
verdict was announced.

“These young ladies were in the wrong place at the wrong time, and my thoughts go out to the family and friends of the deceased,” Leyton added.  “While nothing can bring back the life of Wanda Garner nor undo the physical and mental harm of the other two victims, justice has been served and Christopher Meadows is being held accountable for his actions under the law.”

Meadows faces life in prison without the possibility of parole when he is sentenced.
