Jury convicts Flint woman for striking ex-boyfriend with her car

FLINT – Genesee County Prosecutor David Leyton said a jury on September 26 convicted a Flint woman of intentionally hitting her ex-boyfriend with her car after the two got into a verbal altercation just moments before.

Annette Perkins, 59, is convicted of Assault with Intent to do Great Bodily Harm Less Than Murder, Malicious Destruction of Personal Property and one count of Domestic Violence for the September 13, 2022, incident that critically injured the victim.

According to testimony at trial, Perkins and her ex-boyfriend had gotten into a verbal argument at a store parking lot on Martin Luther King Avenue and she followed him in her car as he began to walk home a half block away. After the victim arrived home, the verbal argument with Perkins escalated as the victim was standing next to his son’s car in front of his home. Perkins then drove her vehicle up and over a curb directly at the victim and pinned and drug him alongside his son’s vehicle.

The victim was taken to Hurley Hospital where he was treated for critical injuries.

Perkins herself called 9-1-1 and later admitted to police that she struck her ex-boyfriend with her car.

“For whatever reason, we have had multiple similar incidents as this one that we have prosecuted and gone to trial on this year,” said Prosecutor Leyton. “Fortunately, we have been able to obtain justice in the  courtroom for the victims and their families in each case by obtaining guilty verdicts,” he said.

Prosecutor Leyton recognized the work of his staff in bringing this case to trial, including assistant prosecutor Ezekiel Zanetta who tried the case in front of the jury.

Perkins will be sentenced in Circuit Court on November 12, 2024.
