Previous city boundaries to be used for special election

Written By Jameca Patrick-Singleton

According to information passed down from the State of Michigan, Flint residents must vote within the boundaries that were in place prior to the 2021 City Council Changes in the May 7, 2024 special city council election in Wards 7 and 9. This directive, which was sent to both the City and County Clerk offices this week is causing some confusion amongst some residents and even some council members.

“I have received numerous calls as to the map and the old map ward boundaries” Councilwoman Tonya Burns (Ward 6) said in part, through a statement posted on her Facebook page.

Resident Lisa Reynolds, who lives in the ward that Burns represents, stated that she is also confused.

“Initially I voted for Ladel Lewis, but now Tonya Burns is my council person,” Reynolds said. “I don’t know if I’m supposed to vote in the special election or not.”

Residents in Wards 7 and 9 with questions about their ability to vote in the special election should reach out to the City of Flint Clerk’s Office at (810) 766-7413.
