~~High Demand Expands MCC's Criminal Justice Career & Information Fair

Demand is high for new recruits in Criminal Justice careers nationwide, which is why Mott Community College’s 18th annual Criminal Justice Career & Information Fair is expanding to include more than 40 federal, state and local law enforcement departments and agencies from multiple states, eager to fill open positions and provide information on career opportunities.

The Criminal Justice Career & Information Fair will take place 4 to 6:30 pm Tuesday, April 7, 2015 in the Ballenger Field House on MCC's main campus, 1401 East Court Street, Flint. This event is free and open to the public.

“A wide variety of career choices are available today for both men and women, professions that include police officers, private detectives and investigators, security guards, correctional officers and social work,” said Jimmie Baber, Criminal Justice faculty at MCC. According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, careers in criminal justice and protective services will grow as fast, or faster than the average, for all occupations in the years to come.

MCC's Criminal Justice Career & Information Fair provides students and job seekers access to a range of opportunities available in criminal justice, including law enforcement, and specialty agencies such as the F.B.I., U.S. Secret Service, various branches of the U.S. Armed Forces, several police and sheriff's departments from across Michigan, the region and the nation, security firms, public safety, crime prevention programs and human services agencies.

Participants will receive career information, networking opportunities, a chance to brush up on job seeking skills as well as the possibility for interviews with employers on site. Attendees should be dressed appropriately in professional attire and are encouraged to bring several copies of their resumes.

“This is one of most the consistent Criminal Justice career fair programs in the state,” said Aron Gerics, interim coordinator of the Student Employment Center at MCC. “Not many college-sponsored career fairs have been around for 18 years.”

Mott Community College's Criminal Justice program provides a number of options for students pursuing careers in criminal justice. Students can earn an Associate's degree or a Certificate of Achievement that will prepare them for employment opportunities in a number of settings, including industrial and department store security; township, local, county and state law enforcement; correctional facilities; substance abuse and juvenile detention centers. Students can also complete a bachelor's degree in criminal justice at Ferris State University of Southeast Michigan, conveniently located at the University Center on the MCC main campus.
