Taliah Abdullah, new executive director of the Gloria Coles Flint Public Library, met with the public at a public reception held on August 2.
Abdullah previously worked for the Arapahoe Library District in Englewood, CO. She has over 20 years of experience in school and public libraries, as well as experience in library management.
Reta Stanley, president of the Gloria Coles Flint Public Library Board of Trustees, is excited about Abdullah leading the library into the future.
“She is going to build a larger community engagement with the library, which is very important” said Stanley.
In her comments to attendees of the event, Abdullah stated: “I am committed to fostering open communication and transparency. I believe that by working collaboratively we can address challenges, celebrate achievements and create lasting connections that will uplift, build, encourage our community in ways we are currently doing and that is yet to be done”.
Abdullah has been on the job since late July.
The event, which was attended by Gloria Coles herself, was considered a success by several guests in attendance.
“I’m happy that they did this” said Flint resident Glenda Wilder.
Wilder added: “I bring my grandkids to the library all of the time, and it’s nice to meet the person in charge.”
