Because longtime member Jerry Ragsdale announced his resignation Friday Oct. 2 effective immediately, the Genesee Intermediate School District (GISD) is currently accepting applications from those interested in becoming a member of the GISD Board of Education.
Eligible applicants must be a registered voter who lives in GISD’s 21-school district service area. To be considered for appointment, candidates must submit a one-page letter of application along with a resume to the GISD Superintendent’s Office no later than 4 p.m., Friday, October 16, 2020.
Applications should be addressed to:
Richard Hill, President Genesee Intermediate School District Board of Education
2413 West Maple Avenue
Flint, Michigan 48507-3493
Candidates will be interviewed in person in Room 101 of the Erwin L. Davis Education Center, 2413 West Maple Avenue. All interviews and meetings related to filling the vacant board seat are open to the public. Due to the pandemic, the public is invited to attend the interviews virtually via Zoom (link to be posted on the GISD website). Initial interviews are scheduled for Thursday, October 22. If needed, a second round of interviews for final candidates will be held. Members of the GISD Board of Education will select the new board member immediately following the completion of all interviews.
The GISD Board of Education is selecting a candidate to fill the vacated seat in a process that is thorough and open to the public, consistent with Revised School Code Section 380.614, and GISD Board of Education Policy 0142.5.
The names of the candidates and a complete schedule of interviews and meetings will be posted once applications have been submitted. Pursuant to the Revised School Code, the newly elected board member will serve until June 30, 2021.
Questions, comments or requests for information regarding this matter may be submitted to Dr. Lisa Hagel, Superintendent, Genesee Intermediate School District, 2413 West Maple Avenue, Flint, Michigan 48507-3493.
