GENESEE ISD to Hold 5th Annual Day of Giving this Friday

GISD Employees to Perform Acts of Kindness across Genesee County June 3, 2022

FLINT – The Genesee Intermediate School District (GISD) is excited to announce the 5th Annual Day of Giving will be this Friday, June 3, 2022. After months of planning, GISD staff will go out into the community to perform thousands of acts of kindness for unsuspecting people across Genesee County. Leaders of the District would like to thank all the employees and community partners who have donated items and money to make this year’s Day of Giving possible.

“When we began the Day of Giving, our goal was simple – to make a positive impact throughout the community we serve,” said Steve Tunnicliff, Ph.D., superintendent of GISD.

“That goal remains the same, and thanks to the generosity of our own employees and community partners joining in to support the effort, the day continues to grow each year,” Tunnicliff added. “Our community – truly all of us – have faced unprecedented challenges in the last two years. So it’s nice to show appreciation and do something kind for someone else.”

GISD employees have planned dozens of different projects to positively impact a variety of people across Mid-Michigan, from those who have fallen on hard times, to counselors and social workers who go above and beyond for students, to those in the healthcare field, law enforcement officers and first responders.

“Our Mobile Education Lab, or MEL bus, will also be making stops in a few neighborhoods in our community giving away ice cream and books,” added Tunnicliff. “It’s going to be a great day.”

GISD employees will be at various locations Friday, June 3rd, wearing bright orange shirts. If you spot them, you know good things are in store. GISD Day of Giving efforts are meant to show kindness to others throughout the community and inspire people to do more of the same. When someone is on the receiving end of an intentional act of kindness, the GISD staff hopes they will pay it forward, causing the positive vibes to spread and reach as many people as possible. Pictures and updates will be posted on social media throughout the day. Follow the effort on Facebook and Twitter with #GISDDayofGiving.
