FLINT, MI – On August 17, 2024, Donations With Love, led by founder Dr. Darcele Robinson and co-chair Dr. Tiffany Quinn, hosted the incredibly successful “If Shoes Could Talk” back to school giveaway at Greater Heights Academy School. This impactful event went beyond just a giveaway—approximately 300 children received new shoes, school supplies and book bags, while families accessed critical education and resources to prepare for the school year.
The day was filled with excitement, featuring music and door prizes from WDZZ, pizza, popcorn, Have-A-Bar ice cream and an epic gaming truck. Wayne the Barber provided free haircuts, ensuring students were ready to head back to school in style. Community leaders such as 1st Ward Flint City Councilman Leon El-Alamin and Council President and 2nd Ward Flint City Councilwoman Dr. Ladel Lewis were also in attendance to show their support and engage with the families.
In addition to fun and festivities, a wide array of community partners offered valuable onsite education. MDHHS Foster Care Division shared crucial information on foster care and the growing need for foster parents. New Path, GCPC, Crime Stoppers, Salvation Army Rehabilitation, Promise of Hope and Motivated by Faith Inc. were among the vendors who provided resources on safe medication use, over-the-counter medication safety, vape-free prevention, Narcan training and human trafficking prevention. These were just a few of the many partners present, each offering critical information to empower families.
Volunteers, including Donations With Love Board members, staff, Dr. Robinson’s Zeta Beta Zeta sorority sisters and Greater Heights Principal Richard Thompson along with Greater Heights Academy staff, played a key role in making the event a success. Together, they ensured that every child left not only with the supplies they needed, but also with the knowledge and support to have a successful school year.
