Flint, MI, 12/20/2022:  The Flint Community Lab has received a grant of $40,000 from the Community Foundation of Greater Flint to support youth education and engagement in STEM careers.

The project’s focus is providing residents with knowledge about the safety of their water, and resources to help people trust that their water is safe, as thousands of pipes have been replaced in the city of Flint and the system continues to improve. The lab provides free water testing and resources in Flint to help residents navigate the myriad of information they see and hear about water quality, to ensure their family’s health.

Since opening the Lab in October of 2020, FCL has conducted over 2,000 tests, and has provided internship opportunities for close to 30 youth. Through persistent outreach and relationship building, the lab has increased the number of tests conducted while expanding the opportunities available to youth through internships with the lab.

Candice Mushatt, Director of the Flint Community Lab says that with this grant from the CFGC that “We are transforming the Flint water crisis into STEM opportunities for youth that are historically underserved. This grant from the Community Foundation of Greater Flint will further our mission to expose Flint youth to becoming future chemists and lab technicians.”
