Council votes to approve joint effort to apply for housing planning grant

Written by Jameca Patrick-Singleton
On Monday July 25, Flint City Council voted to approve an agreement with the Flint Housing Commission and the City of Flint to apply for a Choice Neighborhoods planning grant for the River Park Town Houses. If awarded, the grant could result in the complex being destroyed and residents being moved into other housing.
The program, if successful will strongly resemble the Choice Neighborhood grant that the City of
Flint received in 2018 that moved residents from Atherton East townhouses to other locations
throughout the city, including the newly built Clark Commons, after it was discovered that
Atherton East was built in a flood zone.
The vote was 7-0. Mays of Ward 1 and Burns of Ward 6 were not present for the vote.
