Flint, Michigan – School’s out and the days are long, but that’s no reason for kids to be bored this summer. Genesee District Library (GDL) website can be your first stop when looking for free fun all summer long.
First, feel free check out the Summer Program Guide. GDL has booked over 130 fantastic programs featuring magicians, live animals, cooking, comic drawing, science, crafts, ventriloquists, puppets, authors and 10 different concerts.
Second, you help kids avoid the “summer slump” in their academic skills by reading for fun and prizes. The Summer Reading Challenge is open to all ages, and community members of all ages are entered to win a Barnes & Noble Gift Card just for registering. You can simply log your reading time, activities and book reviews to earn badges. Each badge earns tickets that you enter to win prize drawings. Prizes include Squishmallows, Legos, Bluey Water & Sand Tables, Minecraft figures and activity books, Dog Man figures and activity book and more. If you collect any combination of 19 badges you can complete the challenge and receive a free book.
Kelly Flynn, Community Relations Manager, said, “Summer is the perfect time to read for fun – no textbooks required. Ask a librarian for book suggestions. There’s truly something for everyone at GDL.”
Lastly, feel fre to join the GDL Road Trip Adventure. You can grab your friends and family and head to your favorite Genesee District Library branch to pick up a Game Card. To participate, you visit each branch, have your Game Card initialed and collect a 3D printed token, unique to each location. If you collect all 19, you will get the Golden Bonus 20 Token.
“This is such a fun way to discover all that Genesee District Library has to offer,” Flynn said. “Also, the Linden token can be picked up at the Fenton-Winegarden branch while the Linden location is closed for renovations.”
