This year’s annual Save & Share celebration was one for the record books. The long-time, family-owned furniture and flooring store had its highest combined four-day sales volume in the nine-year history of this important
fundraising event and, as a result, four local charities received checks totaling $26,500.
According to Skaff Furniture-Carpet One President Dick Skaff, the community’s response to the event that started the Friday after Thanksgiving and ended on the last day of November was overwhelming.
“Last year, thanks to our customers, our Save and Share Celebration raised $18,500 for our charity partners,” said Skaff. “But this year, we were blown away by the support we received from the community. We were busy from the moment we opened on Friday morning and we didn’t get a chance to catch our breath until we closed Monday evening.”
As in years past, 5% of each and every furniture and flooring purchase made over the Save & Share weekend went to Communities First, Carriage Town Ministries, The Food Bank of Eastern Michigan and Whaley’s Children’s Center.
Customers could choose the charity they would like to support, or, if they wanted, they could divide their donation between all four organizations.
By all accounts, despite dealing with the pandemic and the challenges associated with it, the four-day event went extremely smooth.
“Wearing a mask was required,” Skaff said. “We were continually sanitizing high traffic areas. (And) because we have such a large building it made social distancing somewhat easier.”
Skaff also expressed special thanks to the charity partners for their involvement.
“The support and enthusiasm they bring to this event is over the top!” says Skaff. “The entire teams at Carriage Town Ministries, Communities First, The Food Bank of Eastern Michigan and Whaley’s Children Center are all totally committed to making a difference in the lives of people in need in our area.”
Plus, it turns out, the appreciation for being included in this annual event is a two-way street.
“I know I speak for all the charity partners when I say we are thrilled to be a part of the Save and Share celebration, especially this year,” says Mindy Williams, President and CEO of Whaley Children’s Center.
“Because of the pandemic we had to cancel some of our fundraising events which squeezed our budget,” Williams added. “The proceeds from Save and Share will help us to continue to provide for the needs of our kids. It truly is a win-win for everyone.”
