Human Trafficking Forum to raise awareness on issue affecting Flint through art and storytelling

WHAT: HUMAN TRAFFICKING FORUM
WHEN: Saturday, February 7, 2026, 11 a.m. – 3 p.m.
WHERE: New Creation Church of God  3472 Lennon Road, Flint, MI 48507

FLINT, MI – Michigan ranks among the top states in the United States for human trafficking. The New Creation Church of God (NCC) in Flint, Michigan is taking action to try and help change that. NCC is hosting a Human Trafficking Forum to raise awareness about this horrible issue affecting Flint, Detroit and many other communities across Michigan and nationally at an alarming rate. By informing our community of the existence, warning signs and the dangers of human trafficking through art and advocacy, the church hopes to prevent someone from falling victim to it.

The theme of the Human Trafficking Forum is: “Missing But Not Forgotten – Honoring the Voiceless Through Art & Advocacy. The forum will take place on Saturday, February 7, 2026, from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at New Creation Church of God, located at  3472 Lennon Road, Flint, MI 48507.

This event marks the third human trafficking forum hosted by NCC in the last three years. Community members are invited to join New Creation Church of God February 7 as they partner with local artists and human trafficking survivors to help shed light on the harsh realities of human trafficking, remember those who are missing and give a voice to the voiceless. Through art and storytelling, the church will honor survivors, raise community awareness and inspire action.

“We believe that every human being has value because all humans are image bearers of God,” said Mark Staton II, lead pastor of New Creation Church of God. “Human trafficking has no place in our world as it violates the most basic human rights.

“Child predators and traffickers often lure their victims through online gaming, from malls and even schools, so this is plaguing all of our communities, whether we realize it or not. The Church must be an advocate and must take a seat at the table to help bring this fight out of the shadows and into the light.”

The forum is free and open to the public. There is also a writing contest as part of the event. Those interested are encouraged to submit a poem, short story or essay about human trafficking and giving a voice to the silenced. Participants may submit one entry per category: Poetry – up to 40 lines, Short Story – up to 1,500 words and Essay – up to 1,000 words.  Entries will be judged within two age groups: Youth: 17 and under, and Adults: 18 and over. The Submission Deadline is January 19, 2026, postmarked or electronically submitted at NCC Human Trafficking Writing Contest 2026.  Winners of the Writing Contest will be announced February 7, 2026, during the Human Trafficking Forum.

For more details, or to register for the event, please contact the NCC church office at (810) 732-0500. Together we can make a difference.
