Flint’s former deputy fire chief tapped for new position in Lansing

Written By Jameca Patrick-Singleton
Following a nationwide search Flint’s former Deputy Fire Chief Carrie Edwards-Clemons has been tapped to serve as the newest Assistant Fire Chief for the Lansing Fire Department. Edwards-Clemons retired from the City of Flint Fire Department after serving in the department for over 20 years.
After retiring, Edwards-Clemons took some time to relax and reset.
“I wanted to take some time to sit down,” she said. “Some time to just finish my honey-do list.”
After taking a few months off, Edwards-Clemons began doing fire safety work with a local company called Northgate.
“I’ve enjoyed my time with Northgate,” she stated. “It’s allowed me to work in a different space.”
But while Edwards-Clemons has likes the work that she does with Northgate, she is happy to be moving on to what she considers passion work.
“Working with firefighters and the community has always been my passion.”
The Lansing Fire Department has just under 200 employees and six fire stations, and Edwards-Clemons will work with them on logistics, fire safety and the administration portions of running the fire houses. The duties, she say, she is very familiar with through her years of experience in Flint. She is delighted to take her abilities to Lansing.
Edwards-Clemons is also excited about the timing of her new position.
“The Lord prepared a table before me- gave me time to breathe and then sent me to this next step. Everything aligned. The Lord, He truly ordered my steps.”
