Judge dismisses charges against Former Governor Rick Snyder

Written By Jameca Patrick-Singleton

Genesee County Circuit Court Judge Kay Behm has ordered that the charges against former Governor Rick Snyder (R) be dismissed in the Flint Water Crisis case.

Snyder had been charged with two misdemeanor charges including willful neglect. He faced up to one year in prison and a fine of $1,000. The reason cited for the dismissal was an issue of the now-defunct one-person grand jury, which was the method used to seek indictments against Snyder and others. According to Judge Behm the charges “were not properly brought and must be dismissed at this time.”

Earlier this year, cases were dropped against other water crisis defendants, including Nick Lyon and Eden Wells, who were top state officials during the Snyder administration.
