Flint boxer Claressa Shields Pushes on Semifinals of World Championships

Story by Eric Woodyard @ Mlive

FLINT, MI – Russian fighter Iaroslava Iakushana was yet another victim of Olympic gold medalist boxer Claressa Shields as she collected another victory.

Shields pushed forward to the semifinal round of the World Championships in Jeju, South Korea, after a 3-0 unanimous decision over Iakushana on Friday, Nov. 21.

She dominated, winning every round on the judges' scorecards.

In three bouts, she has looked excellent — even stopping her first opponent in 11 seconds. Shields (49-1, 19 KOs) will face off with Canada's Ariane Fortin in her next bout on Saturday.

She recently blocked out stomach pains to beat Fortin in September to win the Continental Championships in Guadalajara, Mexico.
