YMCA of Greater Flint Receives Donated Basketballs from NBA Cares to Support Physical Activity

YMCA of Greater Flint has received 128 new basketballs, thanks to a donation from NBA Cares, DICK’s Sporting Goods and Spalding®. The basketballs will be used in by several Y programs at the Downtown Branch, YMCA Camp Boomerang at the Pierson Road Branch, and Y Safe Places, a free after school and summer program. The aim of these programs is to encourage youth and their families to be physically active, develop skills, and learn sportsmanship.

“The YMCA of Greater Flint is thrilled to have been selected to receive this generous donation from NBA Cares and its partners,” said Shelly MacArthur, Program and Community Director of the YMCA of Greater Flint.  “All of our facilities offer a safe location for youth to make healthy lifestyle choices, and they love when we get new equipment just for them. What kid doesn’t love playing with a new ball?”

YMCA Camp Boomerang will have one last preview where families can tour the facility, meet the staff and have all their questions answered on June 6th from 5:30 pm to 8:00 pm. Camp starts June 16 and runs through  August 15. No one is ever turned away from the YMCA of Greater Flint because of an inability to pay. Tuition assistance is available.

The YMCA of Greater Flint is one of more than 200 Ys nationwide to receive a donation of basketballs. This program is an extension of the NBA Cares Season of Giving activation. At retail, the league will continue to work with all DICK’S Sporting Goods locations nationwide and Spalding to donate basketballs to NBA Cares community partners such as the YMCA.
