YMCA Flint Falcons Hire New Coach, Open Registration

The YMCA of Greater Flint has hired Jim LaFave as new head coach and Cydney Taylor as assistant coach for the Flint Falcons Competitive Swim Team. Coaches LaFave and Taylor bring a wealth of coaching knowledge to this position. Coach Jim as he prefers to be called, was most recently Assistant Women’s Swim Coach at DePauw University. He has long participated in the sport as first a swimmer himself and then as a coach at Pine Lakes Country Club and Forest Hills Swim Club in Birmingham.

“I swam as a youth with the Detroit YMCA so it feels like a bit of homecoming to return to a Y,” said Coach Jim. “I look forward to working with this group of swimmers as they achieve some personal growth but also making some fun new team traditions.” Coach

Taylor attended the University of Michigan – Flint and is also the Aquatics Coordinator for the Pierson Rd Branch. “It is the children that help me strive to be a leader in all aspects and a chance for growth in my personal development within my job and my community. I couldn’t be happier to be joining this great team,” said Coach Taylor.

Swimmers can get a chance to work with Coach Jim and Coach Taylor at the YMCA of Greater Flint Swim Clinics September 10-13 from 4:30 – 6:00 pm. Swimmers ages 5-18 can sign up online at www.flintymca.com/register or email Elizabeth Hudson atelizabethhudson@flintymca.org with questions. Registration for the YMCA Flint Falcons is also open and links to that can be found on the website.
