Vernon Chapel AME to host Gun Violence Prevention and Awareness Service June 9

According to Omnilert Statistics, gun violence in the United States has been trending up for the last four decades. Their website points out gun violence has risen by 20% nationwide within the last year.

Vernon Chapel AME church is holding their third annual Gun Violence Prevention and Awareness Service at 10:45 a.m. on Sunday, June 9.

Those who would like to attend the service are being asked to wear orange in honor and remembrance of gun violence victims.

Genesee County Sheriff Chris Swanson will deliver the keynote speech with the theme Maintaining Civility in the Pursuit of Justice.

During the event, information on gun safety will be provided.

Additionally, gun locks will be available.

Vernon Chapel AME is located at 5802 Dupont Street, in Flint.
