Flint, Michigan—City of Flint Fire Department provided an update on details related to a house fire in Flint that took the lives of two children. Details are as follows:

·      Fire investigators identified the source of the fire in the 600 block of West Pulaski as faulty wiring in the living room of the home

·      9-year-old Lamar Mitchell and 12-year-old Zyaire Mitchell sustained fatal injuries in the house fire

·      The Pulaski Street home did not have working smoke alarms installed

·      Michigan residents can submit a request to receive up to three free smoke alarms from the Red Cross by visiting https://www.redcross.org/local/michigan/about-us/our-work/home-fire-campaign.html

·      Red Cross Michigan Region and its partners will come out to the home to install and/or test existing residential smoke alarms

“I am deeply saddened by the tragic loss of two children as a result of a house fire,” said Chief Ray Barton.  “I grieve for the parents and family members who are suffering through this unimaginable loss and I join in prayer as our community supports this family.”
