Tickets on sale now for the Genesee District Library 22nd Annual Black History Month Brunch

January 12, 2023 – Flint, Michigan – Tickets are on sale now for the Genesee District Library 22nd Annual Black History Month Brunch to be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, February 4 at the Genesys Conference & Banquet Center in Grand Blanc.

Each year the GDL honors people who are making a positive difference in the community. The Award of Excellence will be presented to Mr. Norm Bryant, who founded the Greater Flint African American Sports Hall of Fame, Dr. Shane Jackson, for her work in nutrition education, and Flint Police Sgt. Tanya Meeks, for her work in aid of abused children. The Partner in Progress Award will go to the Flint Odyssey House, led by Mr. Ronald S. Brown, for their work in drug rehabilitation.

The brunch will feature Keynote Speaker Nikki Giovanni, and performances by the Kuungana African Drum and Dance Company and vocalist Gwen Pennyman-Hemphill.

 The Black History Month Brunch is sponsored by WJRT ABC12, Brown & Brown Insurance, Delta Sigma Theta, Dort Financial Credit Union, Flint Institute of Music, Flint Public Library, Frontline Nurses, Genesee District Library Foundation, Genesee Health System, Greater Flint African American Sports Hall of Fame, Hamilton Community Health Network, Kettering University, Metropolitan Housing Development Corporation, Mott Community College, Herbert and Carolyn Nash, Ruth Mott Foundation, Simen, Figura & Parker, Superior Furs & Leather, United Way of Genesee County and Voices for Children Advocacy Center. 

ABC12 Anchor Matt Franklin will emcee the event. Part of the proceeds from the event will benefit the Genesee District Library’s Summer Reading Challenge for kids, teens, and adults.

Tickets are $35 each and can be purchased at the William F. Delaney Headquarters Library, 4195 W. Pasadena Avenue, during regular hours, or online at thegdl.org.  For more information, call (810) 230-9613.
