Three-year-old who was expected to lose eye has successful eye surgery

A three-year-old living in Flint who shot herself in the face with an unsecured, loaded handgun on Valentine’s Day this year was expected to lose her right year.

However, according to the toddler’s aunt, the three-year-old, named Skye McBride has had successful eye surgery!

“She did absolutely wonderful,” said LaDorothy Griggs, the child’s aunt.

Grigg’s added: “We are unsure how much longer she will be at the hospital, but her next step after will be at a rehab facilitation for children.”

Young Skye has been completely off the ventilator since February 29. But, as of March 2, she was still on a trach and using a feeding tube.

Skye cannot hold her head up, cannot lift up, can’t move her left side of her body and can’t walk or talk. She went from being potty trained to wearing diapers again.

According to her aunt, now being stuck in a bed has also been hard on Skye’s mental health.

The family is asking the community to continue to pray and share the GoFundMe page as the rehab facility is about two hours away from Flint.

Over $17,000 has been raised to help Skye, but the family estimates they will need about $100,000 total.
