‘The Amen Corner’ to be featured locally in March

The New McCree Theatre, 4601 Clio Road, Flint, is presenting James Baldwin’s award-winning play, The Amen Corner, March 3 – 19, 2022 with performances on Thursday and Friday at 7:00p.m. and Saturday at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m.  Admission is $10.00.

Baldwin, of course, is the author of several critically-acclaimed essays and novels, including “I am Not Your Negro,” “The Fire Next Time,” “Another Country, Notes of a Native Son” and many more.  “The Amen Corner” is Baldwin’s very first play.

“The Amen Corner” is the story of a Black woman pastor of a storefront Harlem church whose religious certainty seeds trouble in the congregation and with her own son. The play mines Baldwin’s early life, which was dominated by a strict stepfather pastor and marked by his own teenage years in the pulpit.

“The Amen Corner” is the New McCree Theatre’s third major production of its 2021-2022 Season of plays.  Its opening was pushed back from the original date of February 17 due to the surge in COVID-19 cases locally.
