Study reveals that Flint residents pay higher heat bills

A study conducted by HVAC Gnome, comparing heating bills from hundreds of communities throughout the United States, revealed that Flint residents pay some of the highest bills for this service. Other Michigan cities with this fate include Lansing, Detroit, Dearborn and Westland.
However, Flint residents express frustration behind the high cost of energy bills.
“A lot of people wo live in Flint have low incomes. It’s bad enough we have high water rates,” said Greg Wilder, a Flint resident and father of three.
“Now we have high consumers (heating) rates too,” Wilder added. “It seems like the people who live here always get the short end of the stick.”
According to Wilder the monthly bill on his home in north Flint is approximately $200 per month.
“I do everything that I can think of to keep the bill low”, he said. “I turn off the lights when I leave a room and I covered the windows in plastic.”
But according to Wilder, none of that mattered.
Wilder added: “My bills don’t go down. I can’t remember the last time I had a bill that was less than $200.”
Residents who are struggling to pay their energy bills should call 2-1-1 to find resources for assistance.
