LANSING, Mich., July 8, 2022 — State Rep. Cynthia Neeley (D-Flint) introduced House Bill 6330. This bill is part of a package to create a new school safety office, which will be a task force for safety concerns within schools. The office will work closely with the Michigan Department of Education, providing school safety plans, granting safety funds and working with local officials to create safety protocols.

“With the tragic increase in concern over school safety, this bill provides an opportunity to keep our kids protected. This office will actively engage in the most up-to-date preventive measures. Communities are asking for more to be done — more support, planning and protection for our schools. House Bill 6330 offers them just that. It cultivates opportunities to save and protect innocent lives — for the sake of all those attending schools in our Michigan communities.”

HB 6330 requires the school safety office to release quarterly reports. These reports will be pertinent for the continued protection of schools and will contribute to insightful changes to flawed systems.

“This office will be a proactive measure for implementing increased school safety. Parents should feel safe sending their kids to school, while students’ main concerns should be their studies. This bill provides the opportunity for assured and secured safety improvements.”
